What is Weekend Warriors? Weekend Warriors is a new program where certain spotlight dogs and cats can be taken home and fostered for a weekend or short period of time! Not only is this a good way to get animals out of the shelter, it also gives potential adopters the chance to see how an animal will do in their home before the actual adoption takes place. If you are interested in one of our weekend warrior candidates, fill out a foster application and indicate that you are interested in the program. We will provide you with all the necessary supplies to make your foster sleepover a success. At the end of the experience, your foster dog or cat can be returned to the shelter, along with any leftover supplies, or you can adopt them! Why try short-term fostering? Sleepover and weekend foster programs are quickly becoming known as a great way to find new foster caregivers, reduce kennel stress, and get better information on an animal's behavior. Sleepovers are helpful in marketing dogs and cats for adoption, as potential adopters want to know what an animal looks and acts like outside of their kennel. It's a win for everyone involved!
Do my current pets have to be separated from my fosters? We always want to keep the best interest of all animals involved as our top priority. We handle this question per foster animal, since each situation is unique. However, most foster animals will need a separate area to stay and be isolated from your pets due to health reasons.
