Welcome to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri!

We operate the largest No Kill shelter in Southwest Missouri. We are an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Funding for the organization comes from private donations. We do not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society of Missouri, SPCA, or any government agencies.

Road Closure – Norton & Melville Intersection December 9-23

Please be aware that the intersection of Norton Road and Melville Road (County Road 127) will be closed from Tuesday, December 9 through Tuesday, December 23 due to the Melville Road Bridge Replacement Project.

Drivers will have access to entrances at either end of the work zone, but you cannot drive through the intersection. There are no signed detours, so please plan on the route outlined below when coming to the shelter.

Right now, the only way to get to the shelter is by taking West Bypass. From West Bypass turn onto N. Westgate Ave (Farm Road 123), then turn right onto Farm Road 106. Follow the road as it eventually becomes W. Norton Road, then turn left into the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri. You can see the route drawn on the map above.

Empty The Shelters Reduced Fee Adoption Event: December 1-15 at the Humane Society

Thanks to Bissell Pet Foundation, there will be reduced adoption fees for all animals ages 6 months and older –⁠ cats will have a $25 adoption fee and dogs will have a $55 adoption fee throughout the event! The reduced adoption fees include up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter, and a microchip.

Adoptions are first come, first served with an approved adoption application. Our adoption center is open 12-6pm Monday-Saturday and 12-5pm Sunday, no appointment needed!

Low-Cost Vaccination & Microchip Clinic: December 20 from 9am-1pm at the Humane Society

We're hosting our monthly low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic on Saturday, December 20, starting at 9am. If your pet is in need of a vaccine or microchip, we encourage you to stop in. We accept walk-ins only, so no appointment is needed!

Spots are limited to 90 people, and each individual can bring up to 3 pets with them. It's first come, first served. This event will take place at our shelter located at 3161 W. Norton Road, Springfield, MO.

Friday Walk-In Microchip Clinic - Offered Every Friday!

In need of a microchip for your pet? You're in luck! The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri offers microchips to the public every Friday from 1:30-4pm at our walk-in clinic. The clinic is first come, first served - no appointment needed!

Microchips are $25 per pet, and we use mini ones for your pet's comfort. For your pet's safety, all dogs must be on leashes and all cats must be in carriers for the entire duration of their visit to the shelter. If you are bringing multiple cats, please separate them and use an individual cat carrier for each cat.

Cooper Clinic Low-Cost Veterinary Wellness Clinic

The Cooper Clinic, located inside the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri building, is the first low-cost veterinary wellness clinic in Springfield. The Cooper Clinic has already helped over 5,000+ animals in our community receive the care they need that they otherwise may not have been able to receive. Plus, we now have TWO veterinarians for faster appointment times!
