What is Planned Giving? Don’t let the terms “Estate Planning” or “Planned Giving” confuse or intimidate you. It’s really quite simple. It is an excellent way for you to leave something for the care of the animals when you pass away. It’s easy to do and a great way to ensure your continued influence on the welfare of pets and their owners for years to come. What are the options?
Bequest: The simplest thing to do is to leave the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri a Bequest in your will. Just call your lawyer and ask him or her to amend your will. For example, “I give, devise, and bequeath (an amount or percent of my estate) to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, a charitable organization located at 3161 W. Norton Road, Springfield, MO 65803.” You can even specify to what purpose your gift should be used (i.e. to fund spays/neuter, etc.).
Appreciated Property: You simply donate to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri. Something that has and will grow, such as stocks, bonds, real estate, even collectible coins or stamps. You receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the appreciated property and never pay tax on the increase in value during the time you owned it.
Life Insurance: All you have to do is name the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri as a beneficiary on your policy.
