Develop, maintain and update key elements of the volunteer program, including detailed written job descriptions of all volunteer positions.
Provides regularly scheduled volunteer orientation and training for new and incoming volunteers.
Fully leverage, motivate and challenge the volunteer base through volunteer advancement via formalized “level” programs, establishing roles and responsibilities after volunteers have acquired proper skills and training.
Develop and schedule continuing education opportunities to deepen volunteers understanding of all aspects of HSSWMO.
Manage the volunteer recruitment and schedule to fill all shifts and other operational needs.
Work to develop good rapport between volunteers and staff keeping all interactions positive and respectful with staff demonstrating appreciation for our volunteers.
Build strong relationships with volunteers in order to know better their interests, preferences and capabilities to effectively match those against the needs and opportunities at HSSWMO.
Proactively build relationships within the community to recruit volunteers – businesses, retirement centers, youth and veteran associations, etc.
Fully utilize the Volgistics database. Perform monthly audits, create and pull reports (including Board reports), and make recommendations for database administration.
Work with local schools to provide humane education and assist with student projects about animal welfare.
Provides speakers, organizes shelter tours, and manages any visitation program.
Events
Ensure that the HSSWMO overall event calendar is properly managed and updated.
Proactively recruit volunteers as needed for all adoption and promotional events.
Assist with planning and coordination for all events.
