The picture above is the artist's rendering of the new home of the Southwest Missouri Humane Society scheduled for completion on or before September 2009. Special thanks to all that have helped us move toward our dream of a new facility for our community. Will you be there for your Humane Society? Imagine our community without a Humane Society and donate today so that we can continue to provide a needed service to southwest Missouri. The Southwest Missouri Humane Society is experiencing a severe operating financial crisis and is asking for the community's help to remain in operation. The worsening economy has been particularly hard on us. Adoptions of dogs and cats are down and people are being forced to give up their pets to shelters because they can no longer afford to care for them. Our space to house these animals has been reduced due to construction and a lack of operating funds. The Humane Society is working diligently to cut expenses by signficantly reducing paid staff, referring people with stray animals to their local animal control, and partnering with other humane societies to transfer animals but that may not be enough. If the community does not come to our aid, we may be forced to reduce the hours that we are open to the public and further decrease the number of animals that we house. We must work together as a community to control the number of dogs and cats. Please help by having your pet spayed or neutered and be sure your are prepared for a lifetime commitment before adopting an animal. Please consider making a donation now.
